Recovery from Binge Eating Disorder, Disordered Eating, and Chronic Dieting

Miriam K Maslanik

Miriam K Maslanik, MA, PhD, LPC

I am a psychotherapist in private practice.  I treat women who suffer from binge eating disorder (BED), disordered eating, and chronic dieting.   I also treat associated problems, such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, body dysmorphic disorder, etc.  I do not treat people with anorexia or bulimia (I'll explain why in one of the blogs).

I received my MA in clinical counseling from University of Northern Colorado in 2011, and I received my LPC licenses in Colorado and Oregon in 2015.  I have additional training in couples and family therapy, women's issues, eating disorders, mindfulness, and EMDR.

By the way, this is my "encore career."  I used to be a chemical engineer, thus the PhD.  Before training to be a psychotherapist, I was also an IT professional and a university administrator.

My approach is Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating.  The goal is to develop a healthy relationship with food and your body.    I use ACT - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy),  DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), when appropriate.  Mindfulness is important in recovery from an eating disorder.   I often ask my clients to see a physician, psychiatrist, and/or nutritionist, as needed.

If you are thinking about or interested in therapy, please contact me.  I accept payment in cash, check, and credit card.  I am not on any insurance panels at this time.   At this time, I do not have any spots left in my in-person practice, but I am willing to accommodate out-of-town clients with Skype-sessions.
